Bengali restaurants in Bangalore - my experience

Craving for authentic and one-of-its-kind Bengali dishes – is quite common for Bengali bachelors being far away from home. Bengali foods are too different and cooking Bengali food is not similar to any other provinces in India or continental dishes.

The best Bengali cuisine served in Bangalore is at 6, Ballygange Place – more popular as 6 BP, located at 12th Main, Indira Nagar above Café Coffee day. Ambience is too good. Dab chingri, Koraishutir kochuri, Chholar dal – all the items are delicacies there. Food festivals/ Buffet are organized during Bengali festivals like Poila Baishakh, Jamai Sasthhi, Durga Puja etc. Recent East Bengal, Mohun Bagan festival brought different items of both Ghoti/Bangla dishes. I have never seen any compromise in quality there. During my frequent visits there, narkol posto bora, mocha ghonto, dab chingri remained my favourite. Shukto – famous Bengali dish prepared at every home in Bengal, has reached a different height there. People in Bangalore – especially bengalees, if visit there once, will be attracted again. One cons is food is dear there. For 2 people your bill can go upto around Rs.1500/- - Rs. 2000/-. Once registered, you get intimation through mail / phone about different food festivals there.

To me after 6bp, comes newly launched Bay of Bengal, located just above K.C Das in St. Marks Road, Bangalore. Crispy fish fry made of thick vetki fillet can never be forgotten. Kochuri, Bengali pulao, different fish items like sorshe illish are lip smacking. Food is not as expensive as 6bp. For two, it may reach upto Rs.800 – Rs.1000/-.

There are few other restaurants in Bangalore which can be visited more frequently as it is more affordable. Babumosai in CMH road is one of them. They offer Bengali thalis at affordable prices but not so clean.

Bangaliana in Koramangala is the place most of the Bengalis have visited in Bangalore. Ambience is not so good, but few dishes reminds the flavour of Bengal. Kosha mangsho is their specialty. 36 Chowringhee Lane also serves good Bengali food.

There are many other new caterer / restaurants coming up in Bangalore and hope they serves authentic and mouthwatering Bengali platter, not just to make money, but also to fulfill the “rasona” of “non resident Bengalis” in Bangalore.

Most of the Bengali restaurants phone number and address can be obtained for justdial service.
